Position: chemical engineer ADNOC

Hedley welcomed Abdulla and introduced the other interviewers. Abdulla said he graduated 2 years ago and had 2 years work experience.

Ahmed: why should I hire you? I have a degree & experience.Work under pressure? No problem. Why ADNOC? Good company with good reputation.

Mansoor: goals? To reach a higher position,and to help my country & children.
Weakness? Maths & calculations. What do you know about ADNOC? Good with petroleum & fertilisers. Outside interests? Football.

Abdulla asked how the company was doing. Ahmed: very well. Supervisor? Ahmed:me.

Position: chemical engineer ADNOC

Hedley greeted & introduced. Ahmed said he was married with 1 daughter; he had studied at ATI, ADNOC Technical Institute. He'd worked for Fertil for 3 years in Ruwais.

Hazza: work under pressure? On call 12-15 hours a day with Fertil. Outside interests? Football, swinmming, jet-skiing, camping in Liwa. Why ADNOC? Good company & good salary.

Mansoor: negatives about us? Too many old employees. Night & weekend work? No problem,but I prefer days.

Ahmed asked what his job title would be. Hazza: laboratory chemical engineer. Who will be my supervisor? An Egyptian lab supervisor, Mumtazer. How's the company doing? Mansoor: we're improving.

Hedley welcomed him & Fahad introduced himself: 30, married, assistant supervisor with ADCO.

Mohd Esmail: can you work under pressure? I've experience of nightshifts & overtime. Goal? Good position as manager. Salary? I'm looking for best offer; would have to be over Dhs 50,000.

Mohd Khamis repeated 2 questions already asked. Where do you see yourself in 6 years? In an important position. Strebgths? I'm sociable & friendly but I can enforce discipline if necessary.

Fahad asked what his job title would be. Operations manager.

Interviewers: Hedley, Jasem & Sultan

Position: commercial pilot, Emirates Airlines

Hedley greeted Hazza, thanked him for attending & introduced Jasem & Sultan.

Hazza said he'd been a pilot with Etihad for 10 years but wanted to move to get a better salary. Jasem asked why he should hire Hazza, who replied that he had a good degree and good experience in this country. Jasem asked what his strengths were & he said dealing with emergencies, which he had done while flying as 1st Officer. Jasem then asked if he was leaving his present position only for salary & Hazza affirmed this.

Sultan asked him what types of plane he'd flown with Etihad & Hazza said Airbus A350 & Boeing 777. Why did he want to work for Emirates? Modern planes & good benefits. Goals? Become a manager & own private plane. Negativities? High ticket prices.

Finally, Hazza asked if there were any courses available to improve his skills; Jasem said they'd look at his CV to check what courses might be suitable; Hedley said training would be required if he wanted to graduate to flying the Airbus A380s.

Hedley thanked Hazza & closed the interview at 1150.

Position: Chemical Engineer, ADNOC group

Hedley welcomed Jasem, who introduced himself. He has worked for ADGAS for over 4 years but he wants to move because ADGAS is small & he's looking for promotion.

Hazza: why do you want to work for us? There's more chance of advancement with you. Can you work under pressure? I'm used to it, e.g. when there was a mechanical breakdown, I had to cool down the machinery & get people to a safe marshalling point. Goals? I want to get a high position through hard work, self-development and further education.

Othman: your greatest strength? I meet deadlines & work under pressure. Nights & weekends? I'm used to working 1 week mornings, 1 week nights. Outside interests? Watching football, diving. Are you creative? I made a machine in ADGAS to warm up the shaft.

Jasem asked how long the position had been open & what his salary would be.

After Hedley's welcome, Mansoor introduced himself, saying he'd already worked for Borouge for 3 years; he was 25, married but no children.

Hazza: what is your greatest weakness? Punctuality & some old football injuries. Goals? Get a higher position & more experience with this company. Where could you improve? By getting more creative lab experience.

Othman: your greatest strength? Lab experience & patience. I like to work in a team. I'm a good communicator. Can you work under pressure? I can deal with it. Why work for us? I want a position where I can use my major to the full.

Mansoor: how long has this position been open? What will be my job title?

Position: refinery manager, Takreer, in Ruwais.

Hedley welcomed Mohd who introduced himself. He's 312, married with 2 wives & has been a handball player at Al Jazira since 2001.

Hazza: why should I hire you? I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry & I'm studying chemical engineering. I have 5 years experience in a refinery. Nights/weekends? I can't give 100% attention to my job at night. Negatives about us? Lack of bonus.

Abdulla: Weaknesses? Night work. I'm not good at maths & calculations. Creative? I devised new calcium experiments last year.

Mohd had no questions & the interview ended at 1040.

Position: pilot

After Hedley's welcome, Mohd briefly introduced himself, saying he was 29, from Fujairah & his father & brother were pilots.

Ahmed: goals? As well as being a pilot, I want to be a businessman. Why do you want to work for Etihad? To get experience; Etihad employs locals. Can we contact your present employer? Please feel free to contact ADNOC.

Abdulla: why should I employ you? No real answer. Outside interests? Horse riding; my uncle has horses. Can you work under pressure? No.

Mohd had no questions and the brief interview ended at 1050.

Position: chemical engineer

After Hedley's welcome & introduction, Othman briefly introduced himself; he's 20 & studying the bachelor's programme in chemical engineering at ADMC.

Ahmed: why should I hire you? I'm passionate, enthusiastic & hardworking I'm punctual & my attendance is good. Goals in our co? To get a good reputation & reach a high position. What do you know about us? I've heard mostly good things.The company is growing both here & overseas. There are good salaries & opportunities for promotion.

Abdulla: how experienced are you of working in a team? We do group projects at college. Greatest strength? My creativity. In 6 years? A good position with this company.

Othman: who would I be working for directly? Abdulla: I'll be your boss. Probationary period? Ahmed: 6 months.

Position: shift team leader, GASCO


After Hedley's welcome, Sultan introduced himself: 31, single, working for ADGAS as senior shift operator. Why move from ADGAS? New challenge.

Ahmed: why should we hire you? I've got 11 years experience; I'm confident & I'm completing my bachelor's degree at ADMC. Shift work? I've a lot of experience of 3-shift work & also 1 week days & 1 week nights. I've done 60-day shifts during shutdowns so I can work under pressure. Goals? Be good at my job & help the company, the country & my fellow colleagues. I want a better position, better salary & better life.

Fahad: weaknesses? I find it difficult to work with lazy & incompetent workers. Why doesn't ADGAS get rid of such workers? 2 levels of management & lack of communication between them. Outside interests? I play football for relaxation.

Sultan: What shifts would I work? Fahad told him. Salary? Fahad named a figure.
